John Wyka, AIA

Committed to a responsible architecture dedicated to innovative design and practical functionality, John founded JOHN WYKAARCHITECTURE in 2014. He believes that architecture fundamentally impacts the human experience and that great architecture transcends the everyday, inspiring harmony with the environment and enriching lives aesthetically and spiritually.

After graduation from the UCLA School of Architecture, John was invited to join Professor Barton Myers’ Los Angeles based architecture firm. John worked under Barton for eight years overseeing several important projects across North America. There he was able to follow his love for materiality and architectural detailing – both crucial elements of his design methodology today. Upon his departure, John worked with Italian architect Renzo Piano and his team in both Italy and California on The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles.

John’s previous career as an attorney in New Orleans gives him a unique insight into the oftentimes complex building and planning approvals process in Southern California. He participates frequently as a guest critic at the UCLA Department of Architecture and Urban Design and at the USC School of Architecture. Until recently he sat on the Beverly Hills Design Review Board, serving as its Chair in 2014.
